The Love that Prepares the Bride
The text of Revelation 19 presents the arrival of the marriage supper of the Lamb as the most awaited event in the universe. The church is called to rejoice and prepare, not by its own merit, but because God has committed Himself to this promise. The bride’s readiness is the result of a growing love and sincere devotion to the Lord. Just as in the parable of the ten virgins, only those who kept oil—the symbol of a life filled with the Holy Spirit—were prepared for the meeting with the bridegroom. Loving the coming of the Lord is fundamental, for only those who truly love wait and prepare for this moment.
A life filled with the Spirit allows no excuses: it is necessary to seek until being completely filled, allowing the Spirit to govern and lead to the encounter with Christ. The relationship with Jesus must be one of partnership, as in a marriage, where nothing is done without the other. This union requires commitment and sharing in all areas of life. The future of the church is an eternal marriage, far superior to any earthly celebration, and this hope strengthens and gladdens the hearts of those who await the Lord.
The Love that Sustains Service
Service in the house of God is only acceptable when it is born from a loving relationship with Jesus. It is not about serving out of fear or obligation, but out of admiration and surrender. The example of Peter, restored and commissioned by Jesus after being confronted about his love, shows that the Lord seeks hearts that love Him above all—more than people, ministries, or achievements. Loving the church more than the Lord is a mistake; love for Christ must be greater than any other affection. The church is compared to the moon, which reflects the light of the sun—Jesus—and must not occupy the central place in the heart.
The love of Christ is unlimited and wholly lovable, proven on the cross while we were still sinners. This love is the greatest provision for the Christian life, sustaining true worship and total surrender. The Lord knows the level of love in each heart and desires that this love be the source of every action and service. To be filled with the Spirit and experience rivers of living water, it is necessary to empty oneself, allowing God to touch and remove everything that occupies His place. Where there is more self-life, there the Lord will touch, so that love for Him may be complete.
The Call to Intimacy and Renunciation
Jesus first calls to intimacy, then to service. The call is to be with Him, to cultivate daily and deep fellowship, before carrying out any mission. Intimacy is privilege and glory, for to know the Lord is eternal life itself. Biblical examples show that the greatest secrets and revelations were given to those who sought the Lord with all their heart, renouncing everything to be with Him.
The book of Song of Songs illustrates this call: more than running after the Lord, His desire is to bring us into intimacy, into rest in His presence. The joy of being with Jesus surpasses any earthly pleasure. Practicing quality time with the Lord, talking with Him as a friend, seeking His will in everything, and not acting without His direction are marks of those who live this intimacy. Renouncing one’s own will, as Jesus did in Gethsemane, is essential to keep the presence of God continually.
Total surrender is the way to be filled with Christ. God does not ask for just a part, but for everything, just as He gave everything on the cross. Trust, like Abraham’s when offering Isaac, is fundamental to give everything without fear, knowing that God is faithful to fulfill His promises. True faith is manifested in works of obedience and friendship with God, resulting in a life that pleases the Lord and remains in His presence.
Our Response to the Lord
The Lord calls for a total surrender of the heart, to seek Him intensely, renounce everything that occupies His place, and trust fully in His love. The response is to give time, intimacy, and obedience, allowing the Holy Spirit to govern and perfect worship and service, making every action the fruit of a relationship of love and trust.
